MVSU Choir in Live Concert

Area high school students are invited to hear this excellent choir. Meet the members and director, plus learn more about Mississippi Valley State University. Scholarship opportunities will be available.

The Mississippi Valley State University Choir “The Songbirds of the South” is a large auditioned mixed chorus comprised of approximately 65 undergraduate singers from various majors throughout the campus. Nearly every participant in the MVSU choral program receives a choir scholarship.

The ensemble performs a diverse choral repertoire representing a variety of periods, styles, and languages and offers a place for students to perform a high standard of choral music. This choir frequently collaborates with music faculty instrumentalists as well as student dancers and performs approximately 6-8 times per year both on campus and throughout Mississippi.

The University Choir has performed works by J.S. Bach, Hailstork, Handel, Lauridsen, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Orff, Rutter, Saint-Saëns, and R. Thompson. The ensemble has toured in…
